Toi Māori Arts

This course will give our students an introduction into the world of Māori Arts.  

Te Rau Aroha is our kura whare and holds many stories of our area, Whangārei Terenga Parāoa.  Students will learn how our stories were told by utilising the different mediums of Māori art.

  • Whakairo - Carving. Learning about our whare, Te Rau Aroha and Kaka Porowini.  Our designs and significant whakarei (surface decorations) of Ngapuhi.
  • Kowhaiwhai - the skills and patience that comes with learning our designs to paint and express your own unique feature.
  • Contemporary Art - An expression of yourself, utilising your own forms to create and complete pieces of art.
  • Graphic design - Combining the old world to the new world.  Learning how to design and create via Adobe and other technology mediums.
