Course Description

Content:
This course is hands-on biology with an emphasis on knowledge and skills that will be useful in a range of occupations including conservation, farming, horticulture, veterinary nursing, pharmacy assistant and laboratory science.
The course will cover the biology of animals and plants including animal structure, function and adaptations. It also covers microscopes, microscopic organisms and biological drawings. Students will learn how to analyse information presented to the public and carry out a fair test. Students will also prepare for and sit an external achievement standard on Genetic Variation and Change.

• Investigation skills including manipulating equipment.
• Collecting, recording and interpreting data and report writing.
• Research skills.
• Numeracy and literacy skills.
