Year 13 Outdoor Education

There are a total of 4 credits that overlap with Year 13 Physical Education. Students are able to take both subjects and can choose the best mark. Students will be expected to complete approximately 18 credits from the list below.
This course is designed for those who are passionate about the outdoors and keen to develop their leadership skills. The course is a combination of both practical and theory where students have the opportunity to be hands on with planning, teaching, managing risk and running activities. The course will include; sea kayaking, tramping/navigation, water activities and leadership opportunities.
• Outdoor technical skills for adventure in a variety of different environments
• Enhance ability to think critically and take critical action
• Analyse risk management strategies and develop their views and understanding of these systems.
• Identify leadership roles and identify appropriate situations for the use of those roles

All specialist safety equipment will be provided for each activity.
Recommended Prior Learning
Open entry. Students should have a reasonable level of fitness and will need to pass a confidence aquatic skills test at the start of the course. Students will also need to be prepared to participate in a range of water and land based activities.
