Course Description

Integrated Core

(The Switch Project)

Students select integrated core on the enrolment form if they are new to Whangarei Girls' High School or on School Point if they are a current student.

English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health are all included in the SWITCH programme. The programme covers the learning objectives from the New Zealand Curriculum.

Students stay in the SWITCH classroom spaces for the integrated core learning. They are in different classes for their option subjects.  Science labs are accessed as needed.

Students will do most of their learning in the context of real life projects, with a focus on developing the 21st century skills of critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Students will also develop digital literacy skills and work on developing a growth mindset. A key focus is on implementing their ideas back into the community. Teachers provide timely feedback and feedforward to students and their whānau about their learning journey.

We aim to provide student centred learning environments for all classes, where students are taught by specialist teachers who differentiate the learning to meet the needs of individual students.

Google Classroom is used throughout the school, giving students access to their learning during and outside the timetabled class.
