Year 12 Academy for Building and Decorating trades

12ACT
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: J. Lang

Got a trade - Got it made
This course has the intention of providing students with a gateway to careers in the Building and Allied Trades with a focus less on construction and more on the Allied Trades involving plasterboard, electrical, joinery, kitchen design, tiling, painting and decorating. NZ needs more skilled tradespeople and this course will introduce WGHS students to a range of training and employment opportunities in this Building and Construction arena.

This will be a hands on programme, delivered both at school and off site as opportunities arise. Industry Training Organisations will be involved in the planning and delivery of this course. It is anticipated that students will work on a practical project which may be outfitting a container or play house with cabinetry, electrical, wall lining etc thereby developing skills useful to build and outfit a Tiny House in the future.

This course will cover the First Aid and Health and Safety requirements of these industries. It is targeted at providing NCEA Level 2 credits, but there will also be opportunity to gain credits at other levels.

There has never been a better time to get involved in Trades. Qualified Tradies are in hot demand, so start the journey and investigate the possibilities at Whangarei Girls' High School, now!
