Teacher in Charge: S. Scourfield
If you like knowing how things work, you probably like Physics.
Physics is the study of phenomena that govern the whole universe! You'll learn how things move and why they do, what energy is, as well as learn about electromagnets and radioactive substances.
Physics is an important science for those who are interested in working in technology, engineering, construction/architecture, mechanical/electrical, or medical fields.
You will learn how to:
Standards assessed:
2 internal standards: Practical investigation and Atomic/Nuclear physics.
2 external standards: Mechanics (motion, forces, energy) and Electricity/Electromagnetism.
Students who take Year 12 Physics may continue their learning in Year 13 Physics the following year if they wish.
Contributions and Equipment1 x 1B8 (for practical investigation)
1 Scientific Calculator or Graphic Calculator
1 Refill Pad or x 1 Exercise Book (personal preference)
Workbook - (Optional) available from Officemax
It is strongly recommended that students have prior knowledge in Physics. A good understanding of trigonometry, algebra, and fractions is also beneficial.
Year 11 courses that are advantageous to take prior to this course are 11SCICF (Crashes and Flashes) and 11SCIRS (Rocket Science)
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
