This course will start with a brief overview of mythology focusing on the Olympian gods and Classical Greek heroes. You will read selected chapters of Homer's Odyssey which is based on the mythological hero Odysseus as he returns home from the Trojan War. This topic is assessed externally and focuses on the ideas and values of the Ancient Greek world. The second topic, assessed internally, covers the rather strange Ancient Roman marriage and compares it to a modern wedding ceremony. This then leads onto the study of the Eruption of Mount Vesuvius which is also assessed internally. The final topic is a survey of Ancient Roman art and architecture and is assessed externally. If you want to know more about the Greek Gods and Heroes, reenact an Ancient Roman Wedding, study art work of famous myths and discover cities buried for over 1000 years, then this course is for you!
