Course Description

Content:
In this course, one skills based project will be constructed, followed by the major design based project. This project includes internal and external assessment. The technological process is followed throughout the project in which a solution is developed for a given brief. The brief is analysed and a need and related issues are identified by each individual student. Past projects have included jackets, ball dresses and high end street wear. The students will be guided by the technological process which involves research, planning, time management, design, construction and ongoing evaluation. The final solution may be for the student or a client. The assessment choices will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual student.

Contributions and Equipment

Take home component: $60.00 to cover materials for the first project and paper, copying, design materials, toile and trial fabric, sewing and overlocker thread, print paste, inks. (optional)

Students also have the option to purchase more specialised materials, equipment or resources for their individual projects (e.g: developing screens for printing vs hand cut, pine vs rimu) they will need to be mindful of this when working through the design process.


Recommended Prior Learning

NCEA Level 1 Textile and Fashion Technology or other Level 1 Technology subject. Students must also have gained the 10 Literacy credits
