Content:
Topic: Russia: Mad Tsars and Violent Revolutionaries.
Russia is one of the largest nations on the planet geographically and by population. What makes Russia so different from other European nations? Why has it experienced so much violence? Why is it seen as a threat today? If you are interested in current events and extreme history then this course may be for you.
The course focuses on three units: the crazy world of the all powerful tsars; the Bolshevik Revolution that destroyed the monarchy and rocked the world; and the dangerous Russia of Josef Stalin, Man of Steel. These units are focused on preparing students for the end of year examination.
Students will have a wide choice of 19th Century NZ topics to research for their two internal assessments.
This course will develop students' skills in critical thinking, close reading and evaluating the reliability of information. It teaches formal writing skills and as such is a valuable preparatory course for students considering tertiary education or a career choice requiring effective researching and writing skills.
