Course Description

Content: This course covers all aspects of photo taking and digital photographic procedures. Students will study many photographic genres and produce work based on established practice. Students will be required to maintain a visual diary which documents ideas and methods relating to artists' work, analysis of photographs, technical notes and the development of their own ideas for photography. They will also produce work for 2 x A1 folio boards, which will document a person, place or event of their own choice. They will develop their ideas through the use of Photoshop and other manipulation methods to produce original photography of a high standard.

Contributions and Equipment

Students will need to purchase a Digital SLR Camera (or the equivalent), either through the school or independently. New cameras range from $350-$800. The camera must have a minimum of 6 mega pixels, have the ability to control aperture and shutter speed and have a zoom lens.
Take home component – Art Supplies $25.00. (optional) This includes: cardboard, folio boards, A4 workbook and good quality printing paper. Students will need to cover all printing costs. This will vary depending on each student.


Recommended Prior Learning

NCEA Level 1 Literacy and NCEA Level 1 Art Design/Photography, Design and Visual Communication, Visual Art or Technology. It is advisable that students have had some experience in Visual Arts or Design subjects prior to taking this course.
