Course Description

Race, Rage and Revolution.
Racism and its place- past and present. If you have ever wondered why racism is such a hot topic today, this course may be for you. It examines the origins of inequality in Western ideas on race and how these ideas impacted on South Africa and NZ.
Topics include: The eugenics movement (breeding the perfect human race); South Africa and the Black struggle against the brutality of Apartheid, and race inspired protest in NZ.
Students will explore this topic through film, documentaries and a range of internet and book based texts.
This course is designed to develop students' skills of gathering and assessing evidence and presenting it in effective written formats.
