Students will learn how interacting processes shape natural and cultural environments, how they occur at different scales and create spatial variations.
They also learn how people’s diverse values and perceptions influence the social and economic decisions that they make.
Three external standards are taught during the year and students choose those to be examined:
• selection and application of geographic concepts and skills
• interacting natural processes, with a focus on a coastal environment - Ruakaka
• how a cultural process shapes an environment with a focus on tourism development in Waitomo
There are three internally assessed standards:
• Local geographic research on Freedom Camping
• A geographic issue on Freedom Camping in NZ
• Global pattern of a geographic topic - World Tourism

Optional 3 day field trip to Waitomo Caves - cost approximately $300
Recommended Prior Learning
Year 11 and Year 12 Geography are very desirable but not essential.
