What will I learn?
The focus of this course is on being a wise, financially capable consumer in a global economy. You will understand how to make good ethical buying decisions on consumer purchases particularly those big spend items like cellphones, computers or cars.
Students will:
- Understand how to make good buying decisions on consumer purchases particularly those big spend items like cellphones, computers, or cars
- Investigate the legal and financial aspects of going flatting with a group of flatmates
- Check out Insurance as a way of protecting yourself from financial loss. Explore the promises and pitfalls
- Undertake consumer product testing with a panel of volunteers
- Use Credit cleverly. What type, at what cost?
- Manage your spending and shopping options, learn about being an ethical consumer
- Become powerful and avoid rip-offs by knowing consumer laws such as the Layby Act, Fair Trading Act, Consumer Guarantees Act
