Students will learn how the processes that shape natural and cultural environments change over time and vary from place to place, creating spatial patterns. They will learn how people’s perceptions and interactions with environments differ, and how they may change over time.
There are two externally assessed standards:
• applying geographic concepts and skills to a given environment
• the study of a large natural environment - Tongariro National Park
There are 3 internally assessed standards:
• A current NZ geographic issue - Should we be paying to enter our National Parks?
• Local geographic research - What to build on the Town Basin Loop?
• The global pattern of a geographic topic - Volcanoes around the world

Pens, pencils, ruler, gluestick, coloured pencils
Optional 3 day field trip to Tongariro National Park - cost approximately $300

Year 11 Geography courses are very desirable but not essential.
