At Whangarei Girls' High School Child Development is offered at Years 12 and 13. This is a unit standards course, developed through UNITEC and covers concepts relevant to working in an Early Childhood setting.

There is a compulsory 4 day practicum, where students will put into practice what they learn in the classroom.
