Year 10 Primary Industries (THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL FOR 2025, PLEASE CHOOSE ANOTHER COURSE)

Course Description

This course is designed to give students an introduction into what is involved in some areas of New Zealand’s Primary Industries. Students will be introduced to the dairy industry, the equine industry and the poultry industry. Students will incubate and raise chickens as part of their learning. We will also learn about horticulture in Aotearoa, focusing on fruit growing and hydroponics. We will visit Hydro Healthy and Maungatapere Berries, both local hydroponic growers in the Whangarei area. 

We will also get out in the school garden (māra kai) and grow produce for the school community integrating some tikanga into our practice, while also carrying out tasks like cuttings, grafting and pruning.
