Course Description

What will I learn?:
This course focuses on accounting for individuals and businesses, where students learn:
- Basic accounting concepts relating to income, expenses, assets and liabilities
- How to prepare Budgets and Statement of Affairs for an individual
- Dinner party budgeting
- Preparation of Income Statements and a Statement of Financial Position for a business
- Savings and Investment– Kiwisaver, shares and property investments
- Decision making—plan a holiday on a budget
- Process and analyse transactions
- Source documents

Skills:
- Explain Accounting terminology
- Classify and report financial information
- Process financial Information
- Research skills

Suits students who:
- Like numbers
- Like right or wrong answers rather than debate
- Are organised and methodical
- Like to build layers of information and piece it together
- See a future in business, banking, tourism, money management, business ownership.


Contributions and Equipment

All students need: pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, glue stick, highlighters, coloured pencils, scissors for all classes
