Year 10 “Taking Your Voice Out There”
Students have five English periods per six day cycle. The programme in Year 10 follows the term structure. Each Year 10 class will explore four themes (one per term). Year 10 classes will all study a novel, a film, and Poetry and/ or Short Stories. This engagement with a range of texts encourages students to think critically, and reflect on themselves as global citizens. All Year 10 students will perform a formal Speech assessment in class. There will be a focus on encouraging reading habits. Classes will have regular visits to the library, in order to foster a love of reading. Students will be provided with a framework that encourages them to read widely, covering different genres. The emphasis will be on developing confidence with formal writing (literary essays and persuasive writing being the main focal genres).
