Course Description

The Year 10 Health Education programme builds on the foundation learning at Year 9 by adding depth to the key areas of learning and building further on the knowledge of the underlying concepts of health. The programme is planned around key issues that our students at WGHS are exposed to, as well as the importance of hauora (total wellbeing).
Topics are as follows;
Term 1: Resilience and Mental Wellness
Term 2: Alcohol and other Drugs (AoD): Understand the effects AoD has on wellbeing, peer pressure, decision making and strategies to address AoD issues.
Term 3: Sexuality Education: Promoting positive sexuality (contraception and STIs), diverse genders and sexualities.
Term 4: Personal Safety: Explore keeping ourselves safe online (cyberbullying) and bullying.
All Year 10 students will study Health Education.
