Course Description

Students will develop an understanding of contemporary art making processes, procedures, materials and techniques through the in-depth study of artists' working methods and ideas in the field of painting. Students demonstrate their understanding of these methods and ideas by applying them to their own work, achieving originality in their personal art works.

  • Creativity: You will be challenged to use media in a variety of ways, explore different compositional structures, learn through experimentation, be prepared to take visual risks.
  • “Own Choice”

You will select your own theme and visually explore connected subject matter. You will use a range of methods and media.

2 x A1 Folio Boards.

  • Decision Making: You will use your research to make decisions about media, scale, technique and subject matter. Listen to others and take on board advice to improve outcomes.
  • Drawing, Painting, Print-making, Digital Drawing/Painting (Waycom).
  • Time Management: Use time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • You will research, select and use ideas found in Artist Models work.
  • Visual Literacy: Use images to describe and express your ideas. Your work will relate to your own interpretation of the set theme.
  • You will need to source your own imagery, either from observation, google images, books or your own photographs.

 


Resources Required

All resources are supplied for use in class. *Students will need to have their own supply of materials to use both in class and at home they may purchase the following: Paint Palette and Lid, Range of Paintbrushes, 2B and 6B Pencil, Black Fineline Pen. This is part of the stationary List for 2024. Students will also need to document their process in an A3/4 Visual Diary or in a digital form.

Assessment Information

1 x optional achievement standard is available for some students, by negotiation with the classroom teacher.
