Year 10 Design and Visual Communication

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

Design and Visual Communication students are given the opportunity to generate inventive and innovative ideas in response to briefs and to communicate their ideas through drawing, modelling and other visual means. Students learn about the design process and creative problem solving while working through a series of exciting and relevant projects.

  • Creativity - Students will explore innovative design ideas/solutions incorporating fabrics.
  • Explore product and architectural design, looking at influential architects and designers from the past.
  • Using information - Use the design process to develop ideas and explore options.
  • They also learn freehand drawing and digital skills which allow them to communicate and present design ideas in response to a given brief.

  • Students will work through both collaborative and individual projects, exploring a variety of technology tools including digital modelling techniques, 3D printing, vacuum forming, laser cutting, rapid prototyping etc.

Resources Required

All students need: pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, glue stick, highlighters, coloured pencils, scissors for all classes
