Preparing for Baby sitting - the care practices for preschool children
Babysitters have the responsibility of caring for children and making important decisions while they are in charge. Parents entrust their child with the babysitter, therefore, it is crucial she knows the basics of child care.
In this Course, participants will gain a good basic knowledge of what they can expect when they babysit. They will learn communication skills, ages and stages of young babies and toddlers, safety and first aid tips, and feeding and caring for children, including nappy changing.
We aim to produce a responsible, trustworthy, caring, respectful and competent babysitter with a positive attitude and behaviour, knolwedgeable in how we care for children and ourselves.
We want you to develop competencies that enhance relationships, promote personal and interpersonal and societal well being. Skills such as leadership, communication, adaptability, resilience and showing intiative will be developed.
We will cover:
Expectations of a Babysitter; expectations of the child; expectations of the parent; communicating and meeting expectations.
Nurturing; ages and stages of development; care practices: bathing, feeding, hygiene and cleanliness; nutrition and development.
The effects of environmental factors on the baby and its development: responsible parenting, foetal alcohol, smoking and drugs, shaken baby, safe house, safe sleep, SUDI.
How to care for a child from pregnancy through to the early years, including important information about child development and why nurturing is so crucial to brain development.
The modules cover:
- baby on board (keeping safe in pregnancy)
- ages and stages
- nurturing (brain developments and behaviours)
- keeping safe
- basic needs.
