In Year 11:
Whangarei Girls' High School requires every student to have their own Chromebook or Laptop. (No cellphones are to be used during learning times). If there is difficulty providing a device for your student please talk to your student's Dean or any member of the School's Senior Leadership Team.
All Year 11 students must have 12 courses in their timetable. Most courses are semesterised and run for two terms each. A few courses run for a full year. All of these courses will lead into Level 2 and 3 courses.
Every student must study two courses in English and two courses in Maths. It is highly recommended that each student studies two Science courses.
Approximately 20 credits in Level One NCEA will be available. These will come primarily from English and Mathematics and focus on the required literacy and numeracy credits. English and Mathematics offer whole year courses for students who will need more support to get their required literacy and numeracy credits.
Pathways to Level 2 and Level 3:
In order to prepare students for Level 2 English courses, students are recommended to choose at least one Year 11 course from Group A.
|Group A (text-based courses)||Group B (passion/ interest-based courses)|
|11 English Keeping it Kiwi ||11 English Let’s Get Critical, Critical|
|11 English Mirror, Mirror ||11 English Power of Language|
|11 English Stage and Screen||11 English Weaving Words|
Each of the courses will provide the option of students sitting the Unfamiliar Texts external examination paper.
