Level 2 Creative Digital Technologies

Course Description

Students will have the opportunity to specialise in an area of digital technologies that interests them. The first part of the year will focus on identifying a project idea, generating design ideas, researching user considerations and conventions. Students will then develop their project using evaluative processes of testing and improvement to reach a finished outcome.

Project options to choose from include:
  • Character design and game graphics.
  • Animation eg. characters or storytelling.
  • Game development/ game pitch presentation.
  • 3D modelling (products / game world / character).
  • Virtual Reality with Unity. 
  • Website development.
  • Digital technologies : develop confidence and advanced skills using digital tools and processes.
Alternatively, students wanting to focus on programming and computer science are welcomed. They will have access to an online learning platform to help support and extend their learning.    AS.91896, A.S.91898
  • Programming (Python/ Javascript). 
  • Computer Science topic (eg. AI / cybersecurity).

  • Design process : generate ideas, develop, test, evaluate, improve. 

  • Planning and project management: manage time and resources effectively.
  • Understanding user needs and requirements : practice manaakitanga, and consider the end-users or audience. Seek user feedback and use it to improve the design. 

  • Computational thinking : (if relevant) apply problem solving to code, test and debug programmes.
