9HAKA

Year 9 Te Ao Haka

Course Description

Year 9 Te Ao Haka is a culturally responsive art form, providing opportunities for all ākonga to engage in the Māori language, culture and heritage through song and dance. Year 9 students will learn the iwi anthems of Whangarei. Iwi anthems are the waiata and haka we love to perform as people of Whangārei. They reveal who we are as a tribe, where we’re from, and what is important to us. This course is suitable for all students, Māori and non-Māori who love to sing, dance, perform and want to learn more about the Māori culture.
