Course Description

This full year course will offer students two major units of work:

  • Devising and performing a drama
  • Drama performance by way of a full production

The DEVISING unit will occur over approximately 16 weeks and will incorporate:

  • Games and group awareness exercises
  • Improvisation
  • Script-writing

It will culminate in an evening performance to an invited audience. 

ASSESSMENT will be in the form of: 

  • Ongoing teacher feedback and feed forward
  • Self -assessment, using Solo taxonomy and teacher consultation
  • Peer assessment 
  • NCEA Level 2 AS91214 Devise and perform a Drama to realise an intention

The FIVE LEVEL 2 CREDITS for AS91214 Devise and perform a Drama to realise an intention will be parked until 2021.

Although the standard is designed for Year 12 students, you will be well prepared for the attempt at them by extra time available to you at Year 11. 

The PERFORMANCE AND PRODUCTION unit will also occur over approximately 16 weeks. It will involve

  • Reading and selecting a script for performance
  • Exploration of the time, place, characters and themes related to the script
  • Rehearsal 
  • Technical production
  • Performance

It is important to note that, on occasion, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REHEARSE OUTSIDE OF NORMAL SCHOOL HOURS. These times will be negotiated and confirmed near the beginning of the course.
