This course has two separate parts:
Term 1/Term 4 - Marine Reserves. Working alongside Experience Marine Reserves (EMR) you may have the opportunity to experience Marine Conservation in action by participating in marine monitoring. Classes usually head out to Reotahi Marine Reserve (Whangarei Heads) to snorkel and do some fish monitoring. Weather permitting, classes may also have an opportunity to visit Goat Island Marine reserve and the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre.
Term 2/Term 3 - Forensics. Learn the science behind forensic techniques and investigation. You'll carry out lots of practical science skills and inquiries. Various experts in the field may visit the classroom to share how they investigate crimes. Practical work will involve fingerprinting, DNA analysis, blood spatter analysis, use of microscopes. Case studies will be analysed too.

Note that this course does NOT prepare students for entry into Level 2 Chemistry or Physics.
Marine Science focuses on Ecology concepts but does not provide a broad knowledge of other biology concepts.
