Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

Maori Performing Arts (MPA) is an indepth study into the world of Kapa Haka.  You will learn and understand the whakapapa of MPA, people associated with MPA.  We will be looking at our major kapa haka events in Aotearoa, Te Matatini and Maranga mai e te iwi (Te Taitokerau Senior Kapa Haka Regional competition) to name a few.

We will look closely into 3 of the disciplines of kapa haka, Poi, Moteatea and Waiata a ringa.  Understanding compositions, who and why they were written and where these waiata originated from.

There will be some element of learning new waiata and understanding some of our old ones.
